Trump has no idea how to run a superpower, say Chinese media

hhmmm....

“Trump is not behaving as a president who will become master of the White House in a month,” the Communist party controlled newspaper wrote in an editorial. “He bears no sense of how to lead a superpower.”

Narendra Modi, Joko Widodo call for peaceful resolution of maritime issues

Analysts say Widodo wants to build stronger ties with India after overtures to China missed the mark. Relations between China and Indonesia were strained earlier this year over China’s claims to almost all of the South China Sea which Indonesia contests.

In June, Widodo presided over a cabinet meeting on board a warship off the Natuna Islands, in a sign of asserting sovereignty over waters in the southern reaches of the South China Sea after Beijing stated its “over-lapping claim” on nearby waters.

The India-Indonesia statement on maritime cooperation speaks of commitment from the leaders of the two countries to “maintaining a maritime legal order based on the principles of international law.”

Leads To (Fake?) Defamation Threat

So, it seems like "fake news" is all the rage these days. As we've discussed, the sudden focus on fake news is a silly distraction. It's not likely to be changing many minds -- and the talk about fake news seems mostly to be leading to calls for censorship. And a big part of the problem is that "fake news" is such a broad and vague label. It's been applied to outright propaganda, to satire, to serious reporting, to serious reporting people don't like... and to serious, but mistaken, reporting. The problem is that when you lump all those things together, things get pretty damn messy.

CIA concludes Russia interfered to help Trump win election – report

A secret CIA assessment has found that Russia interfered in last month’s US presidential election with the goal of helping Donald Trump win the White House, the Washington Post has reported, citing officials briefed on the matter.

The report comes after President Barack Obama ordered a review of all cyberattacks that took place during the 2016 election cycle, amid growing calls from Congress for more information on the extent of Russian interference in the campaign.

For Trump, politics, family and business merge. We know from Indonesia how that may end up.

What happens, though, when family business and public office mix at the highest levels of politics? The absence of precedent in the United States means that we must look abroad for answers. One country that provides useful, if distressing, parallels is Indonesia under former president Suharto.
